Many of the records relate to the work and holdings of the President's Commission on Campus Unrest (PCCU) library. Particular topics mentioned include financial matters, library acquisitions, library policies, and interlibrary loan. Additional topics mentioned include, but are not limited to, academic funding, causes of campus unrest and possible solutions, Communism, freedom of expression, law enforcement, the National Guard, the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC), Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) and other student groups, university policies and procedures, and youth attitudes.

Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) is a radical student group that descended from the Intercollegiate Socialist Society (ISS) which was founded in 1905.
